FIRE crews were called to a car park blaze in Billinge last week.

At around 11am on Friday, October 4, fire crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire on Winstanley Road in Billinge.

On arrival, firefighters found two cars on fire at the Bag and Bean cafe car park, with the flames spreading from a Mercedes vehicle to a 4x4 Toyota that was parked next to it.

No injuries have been reported but significant damage was caused to the Mercedes as well as serious damage to the Toyota.

The fire spread from the parked Mercedes The fire spread from the parked Mercedes (Image: Carole Marsh) A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 11am on Friday, October 4, one fire engine from Wigan was called to reports of a fire involving two vehicles in a car park off Winstanley Road, Billinge.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Crews were in attendance for around one and a half hours.”
