A COMMUNITY group has celebrated its 40th anniversary in operation with a special event at Saints' stadium.

Launched in 1984, the Probus Club of St Helens was set up to connect residents, businessmen, and retired professionals in the borough.

With the community group's first 'luncheon meeting' held at Saints' former Knowsley Road stadium, it was fitting that their 40th anniversary event was held at the rugby club's current home on Peasley Cross Lane.

Fittingly, the Club’s Guest of Honour was Judith Stead, whose late husband John Stead was a co-founder of the St Helens Probus Club in 1984.

The event was deemed a great success by Probus members, who meet monthly and frequently have guest speakers at the club.
