The heavy rain today, Monday, has caused flooding at Peasley Cross Lane.

A St Helens Borough Council spokesman confirmed this afternoon that the road has been closed at the railway bridge due to flooding.

He added the local authority is not aware of any other closures in place due to today's weather.

Live traffic tracker INRIX stated: "Peasley Cross Lane both ways closed, heavy traffic due to flooding between McManus Drive and St Helens Retail Park.

"Diversion: For local bus routes."
