A MAN was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) after a reported assault in a street. 

Residents reported seeing a police cordon in place on North Road, St Helens, opposite from Norman Salisbury Court at around 6pm on Friday evening, September 27.

When asked about this, police said they attended reports that a man in his 30s had been assaulted.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

A spokesman said the victim is "not co-operating" with the police's inquiries.

A 33-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and has since been conditionally bailed, police said.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We have arrested a man following reports of an assault in St Helens on Friday night, September 27.
 
"At around 5.50pm, officers were called to North Street to reports of a man in his 30s being assaulted. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and is not cooperating with inquiries.
 
"A 33-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault with intent.

"He was taken to a police station for questioning and has been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.
