FILMING for a Netflix Second World War movie is to take place at the former Pilkington Watson Street site in St Helens in October...and there is speculation it could be the new Peaky Blinders film.

Action sequences are to be filmed at the location, on Canal Street, St Helens for upcoming film titled, The Immortal Man.

A notice informing residents of filming at the location has been sent out, warning them there may be loud noises from the set.

This stated: "We would like to inform you that Oblik Productions are preparing for upcoming feature film called 'The Immortal man' and intend to film a series of action sequences at the Pilkington Glass Factory, on Canal Street."

It states that preparation began on site on Monday, September 16.

Filming will take place each night from 6pm to 4am from Monday, October 7 through to Wednesday, October 16.

Mimic gunfire and explosisons

The notice says that the action sequence will be "shot entirely inside of the warehouse and requires practical effects that mimic gunfire and explosions".

It adds that "all necessary precautions to ensure a safe filming process have taken place".

It says the effects will be managed by industry professionals and have been designed "to minimise any impact on the neighbourhood."

The council and emergency services have been informed, the notice adds.

Oblik Productions confirmed to the Star earlier this week that the filming is for a Second World War Netflix film called The Immortal Man.

Meanwhile, an article published on Thursday on whats-on-netflix.com suggests that the project is a 'Peaky Blinders' film.

It says that a "long-awaited Peaky Blinders movie" entitled The Immortal Man is soon heading into production and will be "set during World War II".

It says Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby from the hit TV series.

The article adds that Tim Roth is also among the cast members to have been confirmed, and it was reported that Tom Hardy has signed on for the movie.

The Watson Street site, which was closed by Pilks earlier this year, has been used for a host of film and TV productions, including Marvel show the Secret Invasion.

During an announcement about Watson Street ceasing glass production earlier this year, Pilkington stated that past episodes of Peaky Blinders had used the site as a location.

Peaky Blinders film

Earlier this year, it was reported the forthcoming Peaky Blinders film starring Oscar-winner Murphy will be an “explosive chapter” in the story with “no holds barred”, according to writer and creator Steven Knight.

It was confirmed in July that the movie is coming to Netflix and will go into production later this year.

The BBC drama ran for six series from 2013 to 2022.

Knight said: “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen.

“It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

Director Tom Harper, who previously directed episodes in the first season in 2013, will return to helm the film.

He said: “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive.

“Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”

Murphy, who played the starring role for the whole run of the TV show and will co-produce the film, said: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.

“It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.

“This is one for the fans.”

The original series followed the Shelby family, a gang rising to prominence in post-First World War Birmingham.

Knight previously confirmed the cast are set to begin filming in Birmingham in September, and the film will follow the family into the Second World War.

Murphy won legions of fans for his performance as a member of the notorious Shelby family, before he dominated the awards season earlier this year for his starring role in Oppenheimer.
