WHAT’S your go to when it comes to curry?
Do you order a korma, a tikka masala or a dhansak?
Or maybe you prefer a madras, a jalfrezi or a vindaloo.
Curry is on the menu this week the UK celebrates 26 years of National Curry Week.
It was founded in 1998 by the late journalist Peter Grove who had fallen in love with curry and wanted to raise awareness and appreciation for Indian cuisine while collecting money for charity.
Over the years, chefs across the country have marked the week of celebrations with a double decker bus tour in 2003 serving dishes cooked by celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala, a dress made entirely of poppadums by fashion designer Lisa Myers and the highest tower of poppodums was created in India in 2012 - a record-breaking 1.72 metres tall!
Chicken tikka masala is Britain’s favourite curry dish – grilled chunks of chicken in a spiced sauce, served with rice and naan bread and a side of poppadoms – but which is Warrington’s favourite curry restaurant?
Earlier this year, in our Best of 2024 competition, you voted Balti Spice on Duke Street as the town’s top venue for the third year in a row and they took the Best for Curry 2024 crown – a hat-trick of titles.
