A TOWN centre pub could be sold via auction.

The Star reported earlier this month how the Wheatsheaf pub, on Westfield Street, was up for sale - and that its asking price had been cut to £110,000 from £225,000.

The venue, which stands empty, is being marketed by leisure property specialists Fleurets.

It is currently listed on property website Rightmove for an asking price of offers of more than £110,000.

But it has now also been listed for auction with SDL Property Auctions, with a date set for October 23.

The property size is 1,636 sq ft.

The "wet led" pub has open plan space, a beer garden, a large-single storey extension and a two-bed bed private flat above.

However, the listing says the property "may suit alternative use STP (subject to planning permission)".

A description of the property states: "A two-storey, end terrace property with rendered and painted elevations under a pitched slate roof.

"There is a large single storey extension to the rear, together with an enclosed beer garden."

Attempts to sell the property come at a time when there is debate over what the future should hold for Westfield Street.

The Beecham Clock Tower building was recently converted into executive-style apartments while the former Punch Tarmey's pub is set to become an American-themed bar.

Other properties are listed for sale too, with some empty properties being considered for conversion to residential.
