DETECTIVES have charged two men with firearms offences following a shooting in St Helens.

Earlier in the summer a 49-year-old man was shot in the leg on Boxwood Gardens, Sutton Junction.

Emergency services attended the scene at about 10.30pm on Monday, July 22 it was reported that and the victim was taken to hospital. 

Merseyside Police say an extensive investigation was carried out by the Firearms Investigation Team.

Two charged

On Wednesday night Adam Wilson, 28, of Francis Street, St Helens and David Bowen, 33, of Herbert Street, St Helens, were charged with with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life, attempted robbery and section 18 assault.

Wilson was also charged with an additional offence of burglary.

Both men have been remanded into custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Thursday, September 19.

Detective Inspector John Mullen said: “Tackling gun crime and bringing offenders to justice remains a high priority for Merseyside Police.

"We would continue to ask the public to support us by giving us information about who is carrying or using firearms or where they are being stored.

“It is only by working together that we can seize firearms and prevent them from being used to cause fear or harm on our streets.”
