A COMMUNITY-FOCUSED church has relocated its Sunday services to the Citadel.
The Mount, in Fingerpost, held its first meeting at the Waterloo Street building on Sunday (September 15).
Due to long-standing issues with the roof at the main building on Traverse Street, the church came to the realisation it could no longer hold its Sunday services there.
The Mount has become a focal part of the community and particularly does work to help residents and give them a sense of ambition. Among the church’s works is engaging with many young people in the community by running youth groups.
The church has been using the outside space at the volunteer-run Mount Garden café over the summer for its Sunday services, with around 60 or 70 “dedicated” people turning up.
However, with the autumn and winter seasons ahead, the Mount has moved its Sunday meetings to the Citadel as it was “time to put a roof over our heads”.
While the Sunday service has relocated, the church’s other events and the Mount Garden café will continue at the Traverse Street location.
Reverend Tim Coates said that while searching for a new location, after contact with the Citadel-based Vibrance Dance Studio, who were “amazing” and “really welcoming”, the decision was made to move the services to the town centre venue.
Reverend Coates said that those who attend the Sunday services can expect that is “maybe different from what you might come to expect at church”.

He said there is a band or something fun and an effort to “try and focus on something relatable to everyday life”.
The church’s congregation consists of people of all ages.
The service take place on Sunday at 10.30am, and Rev Coates says there is free parking on a Sunday nearby at St Helens College, with limited spaces at the Citadel.
Reverend Coates said: “We are so excited to be moving our Sunday services to the Citadel. It’s such a great venue with an amazing history and a place we believe we can continue to grow community.
“Anyone is so welcome to join us. We are so grateful to all those who have helped locally to make it happen, and a big shout out to Vibrance Dance Studio for their amazing support.”
