PARENTS have been warned their cars could be seized if they park carelessly near a primary school.

In a letter, Merseyside Police has told parents at St Julie's Catholic Primary School in Eccleston that there has been an increase in reports of "careless parking".

Parents have been warned that action will be taken if the issues continues at the school off Brooklands Road. This could also include parking tickets.

In the letter sent home to parents, via the school, Merseyside Police states: "We ask that you park your vehicles in a safe space which isn't causing an obstruction or blocking any driveways, this also includes not parking any vehicles on yellow zigzags.

"We also ask, whilst dropping off your child at the school that you do NOT loiter around afterwards outside the school gates.

Warning message

The letter added: "Please take this as a warning, should there be any inconsiderate parking from now on, this will result in parking tickets and vehicles being seized if your vehicle is found to be causing an obstruction."

Police chiefs in St Helens have previously sent warnings to other primary schools about hazardous parking at drop off and and pick up times.

It is an issue parents have raised with the Star too.

A letter sent by one parent, who asked not to be named, in last week's Star highlighted inconsiderate parking, although the school in question was not named.

The letter read: "Why do some parents feel the need to do school drop-offs so close to the school itself, often [parking] over pavements?

"It is just inconsiderate, making it difficult for parents to walk by, especially those with prams.

"It’s dangerous for kids too, with cars pulling on and off the kerbs as they are walking around.

"Occasionally, it improves when we see the odd police crackdown but after a few weeks it’s just back to the bad old ways."
