EMPLOYEES at a fire safety glass firm proved their mettle as they reached the top of Scafell Pike in support of a beloved colleague who is battling cancer.

Haydock-based Pyroguard, described as "a global leader in fire safety glass", has announced that the company raised an impressive £3,600 for the Ahead of the Game Foundation.

The company has been producing fire safety glass from its Haydock site on Millfield Lane for more than 35 years, with the challenge seeing 40 Pyroguard employees, including representatives from across the company’s global operations, tackle Scafell Pike, England’s tallest mountain, in an 11.5 mile hike over difficult terrain.

This effort was in aid of the Ahead of the Game Foundation, a Wirral-based charity that provides crucial physical, mental, and emotional support to individuals diagnosed with cancer, as well as their loved ones.

This cause holds special significance for Pyroguard, as Simon Ellison, the company’s technical support manager, was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and has received invaluable support from the foundation.

They showed 'incredible effort and commitment'

Speaking about the achievement, Mathieu Joli, Pyroguard’s managing director, said: "I couldn’t be prouder of the team for their incredible effort and commitment throughout the challenge.

"In true Team Orange spirit, the energy was outstanding, and the determination to complete the hike for such a meaningful cause was nothing short of inspiring.

"A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported us along the way.

"We’re absolutely thrilled to have raised such a substantial amount of money for a fantastic charity that has been a tremendous support to Simon, his family and so many others impacted by this devastating disease."
