A PRIMARY school is celebrating after it received an Outstanding result in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Bleak Hill Primary School, in Windle, was judged to be outstanding in all categories by the education watchdog.

The Hamilton Road school got top marks over the quality of education; behaviours and attitudes; personal development; leadership and management and early years provision.

This gives the school an overall grading of Outstanding.

In a letter to the school Sir Martyn Oliver, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector said: "I would like to commend you (head teacher) and your team on your exceptional work".

Among the inspectors' findings, it was said: "Pupils flourish in the caring environment of this happy school.

"They thoroughly enjoy learning and value their education".

It was added: "Pupils work with tenacity and resilience to meet the ambitious goals that the school sets for them" and "they achieve highly".

Inspectors also said: "Pupils build incredibly positive relationships with one another and with staff. In lessons and during social times, pupils’ behaviour is exemplary".

Bleak Hill Primary School said: "This is an absolutely amazing achievement for the whole school and just goes to show that all the work that the school and our families do together has been recognised.

"The whole school community are so proud of this outcome."

Ofsted's findings into the school were published in June following an inspection in April.

It was recently announced that single-word Ofsted judgments for state schools will be scrapped with immediate effect to be replaced by report cards aimed at improving standards and helping parents to better understand schools' strengths and weaknesses.
