A BIN lorry was forced to tip a load of household waste after it was found to be smouldering in the back of the wagon.
The incident happened in Clock Face this afternoon, with St Helens Council saying the action was taken to prevent a fire.
Video of the tipped waste was shared on the local authority's social media page.
It prompted a warning from the council about what can and cannot be placed in brown bins.

A council statement read: "We've been forced to tip a load of household waste in Clock Face today, preventing a potential fire in the back of the bin lorry.
"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended to douse the smouldering waste and clean-up is underway.
"Reminder, ashes can be disposed of in your brown bin, but they must be cool and contained, and batteries are not permitted!"
