A MAN who admitted to a serious “unprovoked assault” on a female has been jailed and given a restraining order.
Barry Ellison, of Saleswood Avenue, Eccleston, appeared before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 30.
Ellison, 47, had pleaded guilty to assault by beating in an earlier hearing and appeared to be sentenced.
On May 2 this year, Ellison had assaulted a female in Dentons Green.
District judge James Hatton sentenced Ellison to 16 weeks imprisonment for the offence.

A court register said that the jail sentence was imposed as the offence was “so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified”. This was because it involved “an unprovoked attack of a serious nature”.
A two-year restraining order for Ellison not to contact his victim directly or indirectly and via electronic means, including all social media, was also imposed.
The court did not order for any costs or surcharge to be paid due to Ellison receiving a custodial sentence.
His guilty plea was taken into account upon sentencing.
