A NEW cafe will open inside a historic St Helens building this week.
Believed to have been built in the 1870s, the grand three-storey building on the corner of Church Street and Hall Street was first used by the Freemasons group in St Helens.
Still known as the Masonic Building, a little further down the road from the St Helens Masonic Hall on Hall Street, the venue has also operated as a Chinese restaurant and an Army and Navy store in the past.
However, with the building lying dormant in recent years, a local businessman has taken over the venue to launch a new cafe in St Helens town centre.

Set to launch on Thursday, September 5, 'Cafe Masonic' has a varied menu that will serve all-day breakfasts, hot and cold sandwiches, rice boxes, soups, and more.
With inside seating and takeaway options, customers will also be able to enjoy a selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes, and freshly made specials.
Aiming to grow the cafe's reputation ahead of St Helens' £90m regeneration plans, the Cafe Masonic team will also offer promotional offers on the first day of opening to entice customers inside the business.
Cafe Masonic will open Monday to Saturday, from 7.30am to 3pm.
