A TEENAGE boy from Billinge has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was taken to hospital following a stabbing in Lancashire.

Emergency services were called to Kensington Road in Morecambe at 6.45pm on Saturday, August 31 after reports of a stabbing.

A man in his 50s was found with stab wounds and taken to hospital. He remains there in a "serious but stable condition".

In a statement, police said a 17-year-old boy from the Billinge area was arrested this morning (Monday, September 2) on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in custody.

Police said it is being treated as an "isolated incident".

In a statement, Morecambe Area Police said: "We know that many of you will be aware of an incident in Morecambe on Saturday in which a man was stabbed and we wanted to give you the latest.

"We were called to Kensington Road at 6.45pm following reports of a stabbing.

"Emergency services attended and found a man in his 50s with stab injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

"Following enquiries, we have this morning arrested a 17-year-old boy from Billinge, Wigan, on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody at this time.
