MORE than a hundred bikers rode into Earlestown for a special event last week.

Organised by the Newton and District Veterans and Business For Youth (BFY) community group, 'Bike Fest' gave bikers and veterans the opportunity to showcase their treasured vehicles.

Taking place at Earlestown's Market Square on Monday, August 26, 123 riders showed off their prized possessions, while awards were handed out to the best looking models and money was raised for the Armed Forces Bikers.

With a positive community atmosphere present at the event, more than £400 was raised for the Armed Forces Bikers through a raffle and prizes.

Lanes Trophies, on Higher Parr Street, donated three trophies for the best bikes, and Earlestown businesses such as Crumpets and Arcadia cafes, and Tattoo Booth, also benefitted from serving the happy bikers.

Despite a short timescale of organising, those in charge of the event said that it was a "resounding success", with many attendees asking to bring the event back in the future.

Chris Scarisbrick, secretary of Newton and District Veterans Group, said: "The event, run by BFY and ourselves was a resounding success.

"Terry Maguire and Mike Box had the ideas and bounced off each other, everyone else stepped up to the mark and worked hard to make it a success

"We had volunteers running the raffle, a gazebo for them to sit in, Business For Youth provided a large speaker, so it was a vibrant day with smiles everywhere."
