PREPARATIONS have begun for the Reminisce Festival in St Helens which takes place next Saturday - with hoardings erected in sections of the park.

The event - from noon to 11pm - returns to Sherdley Park on Saturday, September 7.

Now in its 10th year, the festival has got bigger year-on-year and has a capacity of more than 20,000, with crowds flocking to watch a line-up of 'old skool' dance and nineties pop.

Parts of the park will taken over by a series of huge tents, which house the acts and DJs.

As pictures sent to the Star show, hoardings are now in place and some of the tents appear to be in place.

Tone-day show is unpopular with some residents living nearby, who are unhappy that Sherdley is taken up by the event, meaning they are denied access to large swathes of the park.

The event is expected to draw a huge influx of visitors to the park, which is across the road from residential estates.

It has proven a major hit among music fans across the region and nation and while there is opposition to it from some quarters, there are other locals who stress that it is only a one-day event and that it attracts big numbers to St Helens.

St Helens Council has said it reinvests proceeds it receives from renting the park into making improvements.

Among this year's acts will be One and Only Singer Chesney Hawkes, with the likes of K-Klass Damage, Rozalla and Five due to perform.

There will be a host of international DJs performing, with more than 100 acts on the bill.

Yesterday the show was hit by the news that American rapper Fatman Scoop - who was due to appear at Reminisce - had died after collapsing on stage.
