A SERIOUS crash on the M6 has led to road closures in both directions as traffic builds towards ahead of rush hour.
The collision took place on the M6 between junctions 27 for Wigan and 28 for Leyland this afternoon, Friday.
Lancashire Police confirmed the collision at 3pm on X, formerly Twitter, writing that the motorway has been closed in both directions.
“This is due to an overturned lorry,” the post read.
“This is likely to be closed for some time. Once we have a further update we will make you aware.”

National Highways North West also took to X to confirm that an air ambulance is currently on scene.

Delays are expected to continue until 7pm, with traffic slowly building towards Warrington ahead of rush hour.
North West Motorway Police also took to social media to share an update on the collision.
For anyone on the M6 northbound from junction 25, there is a serious police incident ongoing in the Lancashire area between junctions 27 and 28, tailbacks are already causing issues, if you can leave the motorway at junction 25 you will save time for yourselves.
