THE founder of a charity which grants wishes to over-40s facing terminal and life-threatening illnesses has thanked a developer which has acquired the building from which they operate - and eliminated all property debts owed.

Lynn Duffy MBE says the HoneyRose Foundation, now in its 20th year, has helped more than 12,500 individuals and their families, providing them with moments of joy and respite amidst their most challenging times.

Based in St Helens, it serves the entire North West of England.

The charity, like many organisations has faced the impact of both the Covid pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

However, this week it has been handed a major boost after property developer Nicholson Group bought the building, on the corner of Cotham Street and Ormskirk Street, from which the charity operates from.

Nicholson Group, which owns and develops a number of buildings across St Helens, said it had eliminated all property debts owed to the charity.

Lynn said: "It’s a big year for us with our 20th anniversary celebrations taking place on October 26th.

"We hope to raise much-needed funds and awareness from this plus, it’s really important that we boost our shop income.

"We have a large amount of items in stock now, almost a treasure trove of expensive office and home furniture, lots of collectibles, in fact, something for everyone and because we need the space, there are many bargains to be had.”

One of the stand out items that has just arrived and is for sale is a beautiful collection of around 50 designer wedding dresses along with bridesmaid dresses that Lynn is sure will be quickly snapped up.

“There are chair covers, table covers, candles, bows too, all from the function room on the top floor plus men’s suits and children's outfits, all of which will sell quickly.”

Discussing the agreement, Paul Nicholson, CEO of Nicholson Group, said: “The HoneyRose Foundation do brilliant work.

"While they are based in St Helens, their shop helps people from far and wide.

"Lynn and Billy are outstanding community individuals and deserve all the plaudits they’ve received over the years.

"St Helens as an emerging town needs more people with their ethos.

“When I was approached that there was an opportunity to acquire another iconic building in the town centre, from reviewing the situation it became apparent that anyone who took on the challenge of acquiring the property must act in the best interest of the community and the HoneyRose Foundation.

"In order to ensure the future of the charity we took the decision to clear all of the debts of the charity so it had a clean slate to allow it to flourish whilst continuing its vital work in the community.

"It’s been extremely hard for the HoneyRose Foundation like so many charities we know and support, given the pandemic and the economic aftermath.

“We’ll be supporting The HoneyRose Foundation for their 20th anniversary ball having bought a table and we’d encourage many other like-minded businesses in St Helens to consider doing the same.”

The agreement will see the HoneyRose remain in the prominent corner building.

Asked about his wider plans for the site, which was formerly used as a gas showrooms, he said: "We have acquired an office building which we are currently undertaking due diligence on as to the viability of several uses subject to prevailing demands.

"We have no plans at present.

"We wish to discuss our proposals with the council in order that any decision and subsequent application we do make is in line with their strategy for the town and its ongoing regeneration.”
