POLICE have confirmed that five young people have been arrested following a reported theft in St Helens.

The social media account for Merseyside Police's Dog Section posted that a moped was reported to have been stolen in St Helens on Monday, August 26.

Following these reports, police dog Mizz assisted officers with locating those suspected of stealing the vehicle.

Police have confirmed that a group of four boys and one girl were located and arrested in St Helens town centre, in connection with the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We have arrested five people and located a suspected stolen moped following an incident in St Helens last night, Monday, August 26.

"At around 9.30pm, officers were called to Chalon Way West to reports of a moped being stolen. Officers identified four boys and one girl between the ages of 14 and 16, who were detained nearby with the assistance of PD Mizz.

"All were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, and the boys have been conditionally bailed. The girl was released with no further action."
