THE owner of a Turkish family restaurant is excited to share his food and culture with the people of St Helens.
Formerly working in a Turkish takeaway in Liverpool, Baris Aksaman had been looking for a venue to launch a new business venture, and after finding an empty unit at the bottom of Bridge Street, he felt this was the "perfect location".
Although the Middle Eastern restaurant 'Sham' opened in the same unit earlier this year, Baris said the previous owner left to look after his other business following a death and immigration issues within his family.
So after a fast-paced few weeks to spruce up the venue, Baris and his family launched 'Istanbul Cafe and Restaurant' earlier this summer, and they have been pleased with how the business has fared so far.

Working in the food industry with his family for most of his life, Baris is confident that people will enjoy the food that 'Istanbul' serves, as he promises all the Turkish meals are handmade and cooked fresh.
With a wide selection of tasty food options, the restaurant serves a wide selection of kebabs and wraps including chicken donner, kofte, and lamb shish.
There is also a selection of hot and cold meze, such as calamari, halloumi, grilled sausage, and salads, as well as a selection of pizzas, burgers, and kids meals to ensure that there is something for everyone.
Baris, 24, said: "I have worked in many restaurants in my life, and this felt like the perfect location, just on the edge of the town centre.
"I am 100 percent confident in my food, which is all handmade and cooked fresh, and I also have a chef who has worked in St Helens for many years.
"So far everyone has been really enjoying the food and the feedback has been amazing. There have been no complaints."
With an inviting setting at 'Istanbul', there are several tables to sit at inside, as well as takeaway and delivery options.
Holding long-term plans to succeed, Baris hopes to develop his reputation in St Helens and branch out with breakfasts and hot drinks in the coming weeks.
