HERE is a list of community news events taking place across St Helens from tomorrow.

Gala Fest

GALA Fest is set to take place at Ruskin Sports Village next Sunday, August 25, and has been described as the “ultimate family extravaganza”.

The event will include a vibrant mix of stalls from local independents and charities, while attractions like inflatable arenas, classic cars showcases, animal and pet displays, and movie heroes will also be on offer.

The Gala will also host the annual Barton’s Pickles Celebrity Bowls competition, where 16 celebrities from the world of showbiz and rugby league will battle it out for the prestigious Lol Pennington Memorial Cup.

Entry to the Gala is free but as the sun sets, people can move onto the ticketed family-friendly music festival, complete with tribute acts to some of the biggest names in music.

From 2pm, this will feature the emotive sounds of Dan Carney’s ‘Lewish Capaldi’ tribute and followed by ‘Do It Like Dua’, A tribute act of this year’s Glastonbury headliner Dua Lipa.

The ‘Arctic Monkeyz’ will then delight crowds with the Sheffield band’s collection of indie classics, and the ‘Gerry Cinnamon Experience’ and ‘Kazabian’ will similarly look to get people up and on their feet.

Finally, the summer Gala will end with ‘Take That Live’, who will perform a celebration of pop perfection.

Throughout the day, there will also be food and drinks on offer from bars and independent vendors.

Kid’s Film Club

A FAMILY film club is taking place on Saturday, August 17 at Lucem House Community Cinema where King Fu Panda 4 will be available to watch.

Tickets for adults £5, children’s tickets are £1 and under-2s are free.

Bingo Night

A BINGO NIGHTS show - featuring a disco - will be held at Ruskin Sports Village to raise funds for Pilkington Recs amateur rugby league football club.

Organisers are promising a big night out with doors at the Percival suite opening at 7pm, on Friday, September 20.

The event from noon to 4pm will include Tombola, cakes, crafts and more at the New Street venue.

Yoga session

THERE is a free yoga session held at Park Farm Community Centre each week.

The sessions take place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Fridays at the Kentmere Avenue venue.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Pub Fest

The annual Boars Fest will return to the Boars Head pub, on Elton Head Road, next weekend.

Taking place on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24, the free event will host live music performers, bouncy castles, food stalls, as well as a large raffle packed with prizes and signed sporting items.

The organisers promise an “amazing, family-friendly atmosphere” across the two days, with all money raised going towards Willowbrook Hospice.

With the festivals starting at 1pm, it will be the first event after popular landlord Alex O’Neill left the pub earlier this year.

Scarecrow fest

A SCARECROW Festival is set to start at the end of this month in Seneley Green.

The trail will take place from August 24 to 26 and a location map will be available via the Friends of Seneley Green Facebook page.
