A BID to create a memorial stone to honour those who have died in industrial accidents in Rainford has been put forward.

Rainford Parish Council is seeking permission for the installation of a heritage board and memorial stone on land adjacent to 22A Old Lane.

In an application form, Cllr Rob Reynolds, of Rainford Parish Council, said: "Working with our partners, Rainford Parish Council have erected a heritage board in Crank Village and Heritage Boards and replica Station Signs along the Linear Park through Rainford, which used to be the railway line.

"We are now looking to erect a memorial stone to those who died in industrial accidents in Rainford Parish, along with a heritage board listing all of the individuals we have identified and providing basic details about them, such as their age at the time of death."

Plans added that the parish council has selected the memorial stone and designed the Heritage Board, but will not do any work on site until planning permission is granted.

The plans add the memorial "will not in any way impinge upon the footpath or obstruct the right of way".

The plans are on public consultation until Wednesday, September 4, with a decision expected by October 2.
