MORE than 15,000 people flocked to Prescot Town centre to be part of this year’s Serious Nonsense Festival.
The event celebrates the area’s connection to Edward Lear, who lived at Knowsley Hall for nearly six years, and wrote his literary nonsense and famous poem The Owl and the Pussycat there.
The town hosted all sorts of antics including giant seagulls, hapless holiday makers and performing pirates among a host of other nautical-themed entertainment roaming the streets of Prescot.

Shakespeare North Playhouse hosted a series of sell out shows including vaudeville inspired comedy from Circo Rum Ba Ba, and puppetry and storytelling from Altered Scale theatre.
This year’s festival was headlined by comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw who spent the evening in the cockpit theatre swapping stories from screen and stage with Lady Anne Dodd, wife of the late comedy legend Ken Dodd.
The Market Place Stage returned to the piazza showcasing a whole host of talented music performers including leading ABBA tribute band, Mamma Mania who had audiences dancing in the streets.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods said: “We were thrilled to bring the Serious Nonsense Festival back to Prescot for its third year! The town came alive with nautical theatrics and amazing live music. It’s great to see so many people come out to enjoy this festival of fun.”
The Serious Nonsense festival was programmed and produced by Bev Ayre, Senior Producer at Walk the Plank, who said: “Once again the people of Knowsley demonstrated their enormous appetite for fun and silliness.
"It’s been another incredible festival and I hope that everyone who attended made some magical memories with their friends and loved ones."
