A FAMILY run business has proven why it is consistently rated as the top restaurant in Newton-le-Willows.

Launching along Newton's bustling high street in 2017, Verona Kitchen & Bar has prided itself on providing customers with the highest quality meals, with ingredients imported from Italy or from award-winning local suppliers.

With these ingredients helping to curate a mouth-watering menu - full of wood-fired pizzas, freshly-made pastas, and sumptuous specials - the business has been rated as Newton's top-rated restaurant on Trip Advisor for a number of years.

In fact, the five-star reviews have been so plentiful that the business achieved a 'Traveller's Choice' award last year; an accolade that recognises the restaurant among the top 10% of global listings on Trip Advisor.

And as the business has achieved such success while adapting to shifting circumstances and changing trends, the Star re-visited the restaurant to see what all the fuss was about.

On a busy Saturday evening, we shared the Antipasto sharing board which was packed with succulent salami, prosciutto, and pepperoni, topped up with burrata cheese, cherry tomatoes, and garlic bread sticks, and finished off with basil oil.

Although the High Street restaurant was full of hungry diners, all staff were attentive to each table and took the time to explain Verona's menu and specials board.

After the specials description from waitresses Simone and Lucy, I went for the red pesto chicken tagliatelle, served with chilli, peppers, and courgette, and complemented with parmesan cheese.

This dish was a particular highlight as it was evident that each ingredient was cooked fresh and was of high quality, with the dish put together with craft and care.

Guests at my table also ordered the risotto paesana, which included chicken, asparagus, and tomatoes, and was equally delicious and creamy. The cheese garlic bread also went down a treat as a side order.

For dessert, we shared the delightful Lotus Cheesecake, topped with a lotus biscuit crumb and chocolate sauce, which served as the perfect end to a mouth-watering meal.

In addition to Verona's delicious dishes, attentive service, and pleasing setting, the venue also boasts an attractive upstairs bar complete with a function room, balcony, and beer garden.

Following the difficulties facing the hospitality industry in recent years, this highlights an eagerness to adapt, and underlines why the business is one of the most popular places along a thriving high street.

And as Verona has recently added to its kitchen team and launched a new lunch menu, while constantly striving for five-star reviews, the restaurant will continue to triumph if it sticks to its mantra of high-quality ingredients, high-quality service, and high-quality meals.
