A MAN has avoided a prison sentence after failing to stop at the scene of an accident at St Helens Linkway.

On December 30, 2023, Mohamed Ramadan "unlawfully" got behind the wheel of a Mercedes car without the owner's consent.

Mr Ramadan, of Grelley Walk in Manchester, is reported to have crashed the car along St Helens Linkway, damaging the car and metal safety railings, and failed to stop at the scene.

The 24-year-old was later found to be driving without a licence, without insurance to drive the Mercedes, and over the prescribed limit of alcohol.

After entering guilty pleas, Mr Ramadan was handed an 18 week prison sentence, to be suspended for 18 months.

For his offences, the 24-year-old, formerly of Bridgewater Street in Runcorn, was ordered to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £154.

He was also ordered to complete 15 days of unpaid work.

Information from Sefton Magistrates Court states that Mr Ramadan was given a suspended sentence because there is a "realistic prospect of rehabilitation".

The defendant is reported to be a person of previous good character, is employed full time, has entered an early guilty plea and is deemed to be at low risk of re-offending.
