Learn to play

FANCY playing the accordion?

Then come along to Park Farm Community Centre in Carr Mill every Monday from 1pm to 4pm.

All are welcome, players or learners. £4 per session, including refreshments.

Summer days

A HOST of summer events for families are planned at the World of Glass in St Helens.

The venue will have Wednesday 'crafternoon' sessions for budding artists on July 31, August 7 and August 14, between noon and 2pm. The cost is £2 per child.

There will be pause and play workshops (£3 per child) between 11am and noon and 1pm and 2pm on Thursday, August 8, August 15, August 22 and August 29.

Meanwhile, there will be stories under the tree - in collaboration with St Helens Library from 10.30am on August 2, 16 and 30. This is free entry.

There will also be Summer Games Days on July 26 and August 21, between 10am and 4pm, with free drop-ins. A summer trail also runs from 10am to 4pm each day, with a cost of £1.50.

Sue's stories

FORMER St Helens Star journalist Sue Gerrard will be giving a guest talk on her career meeting and interviewing celebrities.

The free guest talk is part of the exhibition Creative Roots II: Extra, Extra! Read all about it which features archive stories from the Star's 50 year history.

Sue will be discussing their intriguing connections to St Helens.

The event is on Saturday, July 27, starting at 2pm.

Hear about stories such as the time Arthur Bostrom parachuted into Church Square or when writer Willy Russell had a hairdressing salon in St Helens town centre.

Fun fair in park

A FAMILY fun fair is taking place in Taylor Park, St Helens through the last week of July and August.

The site – set up in the park's 'red bowl' – includes a free sand pit and deck chair area.

The fun fair is open from 10.30am to 5pm, depending on the weather.

Things to do

A FREE summer spectacular is coming to Church Square shopping centre.

Activities for the whole family will start on Saturday August 3, with a ghostly-themed Who you gonna call event.

On Saturday, August 10 there will be an Olympic Summer Sports Day.

On Saturday, August 31 there will be a Dino Discovery Day.

These events will take place from 10am to 4pm .

Fireman Sam

A FAMILY fun day is taking place at The World of Glass on Thursday, August 1 where children can meet members of the emergency services.

The event from noon until 4pm at the Chalon Way East site will see children learn what firefighters and police officers do and they can also take their bikes to have them marks and listen to safety talks.

There will also be an opportunity to take part in Fireman Sam activities and a treasure hunt.
