DETECTIVES have bailed a man who was arrested in connection with a shooting in St Helens on Monday night.

As reported, a man aged in his 40s was shot in the leg at Boxwood Gardens, Sutton village.

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

In the early hours of Wednesday July 24, a man was arrested.

The 32-year-old man from St Helens was held on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Following questioning he has been released on bail. A police investigation is continuing.

Earlier this week, Detective Inspector John Mullen, from the police's Firearms Investigation Team (FIT), said: "We want to hear from anyone who has yet to come forward, whether you witnessed the incident or captured anything through CCTV, dashcam and doorbell devices.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw two men on foot acting suspiciously in the area of Herbert Street and Cecil Street following the shooting, which would have been shortly after 10.30pm.

"If you live in these streets, please check any devices. Small details can make a big difference, so let us make the assessment as to whether what evidence you hold is significant.

“Extensive enquiries will continue and we are determined to find those responsible. Working together, we can and will dismantle organised criminals who bring fear to our communities.”
