ST HELENS Council says it has served a notice to travellers who set up an encampment at a former school site.
Residents reported seeing caravans parked up at the former Penkford School, on Wharf Road, Newton-le-Willows.
It is understood they were first seen at the site on Sunday morning.
When asked about this, St Helens Council confirmed to the Star this morning that a notice has been served.
It is expected the travellers will move on over the next few days.

A St Helens Borough Council spokeswoman said: "We are aware of travellers on the former Penkford School site.
"A notice has been served following welfare checks and we expect the travellers to move on in the next few days."
The former school site has been empty since Penkford relocated to the site of the former Red Bank Education Unit in 2022, under its new name Willow Bank.
