A BAKER who was commissioned to make a special graduation cake for Scary Spice herself Mel B says it was ‘an amazing privilege’.
Kelly Diggle owns Cakes By Design North West, the shop for which is based in St Helens Town Centre.
The business – which has been running for 13 years – has had many famous fans over the years including Manchester United players, but when Lisa Forshaw PR and Weird Publications got in touch to ask Kelly to make a one off cake for Mel B she couldn’t say no.
Mel B was awarded an honorary doctorate for her work with domestic abuse victims on Monday at Leeds Beckett University.
The Star, famed for her time in iconic 90s girl group The Spice Girls, rose to fame with hits such as Spice Up Your Life, If You Wanna Be My Lover and more, but more recently shared her history with domestic violence and advocates for others.
To celebrate the day, the 49-year-old lined the inside of her custom made graduation gown with leopard print and Kelly designed a cake which was presented to the 49-year-old star at Leeds restaurant Habibi.
Kelly who made the design based on her love of animal print said: “It’s not easy being a small business owner so things like this give you a huge boost when PR agencies recognise your work and you know it put a smile on the face of someone like Mel B.
“It was fun to do and an amazing privilege.”
