THE Step dad of knife crime victim Daniel Fox is being joined by former army colleagues in tackling the Cumbrian Way to get potentially life saving trauma packs for the town centre.

Daniel, from Thatto Heath, died on September 2, 2016, after he was fatally stabbed while out in the town centre.

He was aged just 29.

Turning their grief into something preventative and proactive, his family set up an anti-knife crime charity in his name – The Daniel Fox Foundation, which raises awareness with youth by doing education workshops in schools and with groups.

Karl Ashton, Daniel’s step dad is one of the leading members of the charity, and the former policeman and veteran is taking on a massive route to help potentially save others at the end of next month.

He said: “The foundation is not just about Daniel, it’s about making sure what happened to him doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“But on September 2, it is the eighth anniversary of Daniel’s death, and I’ve planned to take on the Cumbrian Way to raise funds to buy trauma packs for the town centre and St Helens, as one of these being available on the night could have saved Daniel’s life.

“The Cumbrian Way is 77 miles and it’s going to take place from August 28 until September 2, it’s going to be a lot and hard work but four of my former army mates are joining me which means everything to me.

“When you are in the army you form friendships that are long lasting, and to know they are always ready to support me means a lot.

“I think it’s something for everyone to get behind because we never thought what happened to Daniel would happen, you don’t know when you might need it and no one deserves to lose their lives. Anything that could help is a must.”
