EARLESTOWN indie heroes The K’s will headline a new music festival in their hometown next month.

Since forming in 2017, The K’s stock has risen exponentially as the band have played sold-out shows across the country, secured a Number 3 album with their debut ‘I Wonder If The World Knows?’, and won a ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year’ award at a regional ceremony.

However, not one to forget their roots, the K’s also launched a pop-up shop in St Helens after the release of their album, played at Christmas events in St Helens and Earlestown, and have now been confirmed as the headline act for the new Newton Music Festival.

Taking place at Mesnes Park on Saturday, August 3, the music festival will be run in conjunction with the Newton Town Show, which is a popular event that attracts thousands of people to the park every year.

Organised by the Newton and Earlestown Community Group, the Town Show will be a family-friendly free event that will provide a collection of food and drink stalls, arts and crafts workshops, and a wide range of attractions.

The ticketed festival will then follow the Show in the evening, which is highly anticipated as there has not been a music festival in Newton for around 20 years.

Initially, the K’s were set to perform a DJ set at the festival but over the weekend, they announced that their set will now be a full-band performance.

The Rolling People, Menduulla, Malarky, and Asianblonde make up the rest of the line up, with another special guest yet to be revealed.

One of the organisers of the festival, said: “It’s a real coup to get all the bands playing at the festival, and particularly the K’s after all the sold-out gigs they’ve been doing.

“A lot of the songs they have written is about Earlestown and their experiences growing up, and one about Mesnes Park itself, so I think it’s going to be amazing and quite emotional.”

In a tongue-in-cheek statement on social media, the K’s said: “You think you can have a party on our doorstep and not invite us?!

"Newton Music Festival has finally returned and we are delighted to announce that we are headliners Saturday 3rd August!"

Tickets can be found here, which are currently on sale for £22.25.
