THE conversion of one of St Helens' most iconic buildings into a hub of luxury apartments has been completed.

Last month, the Star reported on the multi-million pound renovation project that has transformed the Beecham building into a mixed-use development of apartments and commercial space.

Constructed in the 1880s, the Westfield Street building was the first factory in the world built specifically to produce medicine and allowed Beecham to become a major employer in St Helens and a global name in the pharmaceutical industry.

After Beecham merged with SmithKline Beckman in 1989, the factory closed its doors for the final time in 1994 and subsequently became part of the St Helens College campus.

St Helens College then sold the building in 2019 and in recent years the Nicholson Group has been working alongside local heritage groups to retain and revamp the building's original features throughout its renovation.

With the conversion work now completed, the building now boasts 18 luxury (seven one bedroom and 11 two-bedroom apartments), which are available to reserve online.

The development has also converted a ground floor commercial space and a partial retention of offices, as well as an alteration to the site's vehicle access and minimal external alterations.
