THE M62 was again closed in the early hours of this morning, Friday.

Emergency services rushed to the motorway heading westbound between junctions 12 for the M60 at Eccles and 11 for Birchwood.

This came after emergency calls were received shortly before 3am, with National Highways warning motorists of disruption due to a ‘police-led incident’.

Police have confirmed that this was due to a man being hit by a lorry. He has since been taken to hospital to receive treatment.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The police incident relates to a man who was hit by a lorry.

“His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or changing, but he was taken to hospital for treatment.”

It comes after major disruption on the M62 yesterday, Thursday following another early morning incident involving two lorries and a car.

Tragically, it has since been confirmed that two men have died, with the driver of one of the two lorries, a 61-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The carriageway was closed between junctions 9 for Winwick and seven for Rainhill Stoops for most of the day while emergency services worked at the scene.
