POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash on the M62 westbound.
Two men have died following the collision which involved two lorries and a car.
It happened at about 5.31am between junction 8 and junction 7 this morning, Thursday.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of one of the two lorries, a 61-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The carriageway was closed between junction 9 at Winwick and junction 7 for Rainhill for most of the day while emergency services worked at the scene but has since reopened.
