CROWDS flocked to a new monthly pop-up artisan market in St Helens town centre on Saturday despite the rain showers.

Pop Up Market Co brought the event to Church Square and Church Street, St Helens after working with the council on the plans.

It is being held on the last Saturday of every month from 10am to 4pm.

Judging by the turnout on Saturday morning for the first event, there is plenty of appetite for it too.

Even though it was a soggy morning, with heavy showers at times, shoppers - including plenty of families - poured into the square to check out what was on offer.

Many sampled delights such as speciality fudge, doughnuts, slabs of focaccia, sweet treat cannoli and patisserie.

Although there were a few comments about it being a "bit pricey" there was plenty of positive feedback from Star readers on this newspaper's Facebook page.
