A NEW exhibition has opened at The World Of Glass celebrating 50 years of your St Helens Star.

In collaboration with the Star, The World of Glass is presenting an exhibition of stories celebrating 50 years of the town’s much-loved newspaper and the array of people who have supported and had connections with St Helens over the years.

The exhibition will be held in The World Of Glass, Chalon Way for a limited time.

On display are pages and stories produced by the Star to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

There is also a series of features from the archives, written by Sue Gerrard, which focus on people with links to the worlds of showbiz and sport.

This exhibition is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the two-year Creative Underground project, co-ordinated by St Helens Archive Service.

Star editor Andrew Kilmurray said: "A massive thank you to the World of Glass's team for pulling this together and to Sue for digging into her personal archives.

"Having the pages we put together to mark our 50th birthday edition displayed in the gallery space gives readers another chance to enjoy them.

"And it's brilliant to see some of the old broadsheet pages from the Star's early days blown up and exhibited on the gallery walls.

"There's no charge for entry so for those who are passionate about local history and newspapers it's chance to enjoy these pages and the stories.

"What this process has done is remind us of the rich seam of archive material and stories that exist from the Star's half a century of covering St Helens life.

"If people enjoy this maybe there'll be an opportunity to work with the museum in future to create more themed events based on the Star's past."
