PROPOSALS for a children’s home have been submitted.

An application proposing the change of use of the property in Sutton Leach, on Mill Lane – from a residential dwelling house to a children’s home for the care of up to two children – has been put forward.

A planning statement says there will be ’24/7 staff presence at the premises’.

It said: “The property is semi-detached. Internal works being carried out include additional, sound insulating plaster boarding to party wall and thermal insulation finished in plasterboard, skimmed and emulsion.

“When complete, the inside will look like a new-build property.

“The property currently has two storeys with three bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. Two bedrooms will be retained with the third bedroom becoming an office for the use by staff to manage the children.

“The ground floor will become an open plan comprising a sitting room at the front and a dining and kitchen at the back.

“An assessment is made regarding the behavioural characteristics of the children.

“Where there may be issues or instances of anti-social behaviour, the staff are trained to deal with many types of such incidences and are adept at diffusing and de-escalating given situations.

“The staff will also help forge good neighbourliness. Furthermore, the premises will be registered with the Care Quality Commission to ensure their standards are maintained for the good of the children.

“The service is aimed at giving the children a sense of living at home with a guardian(s) in order to give them the best chance of becoming responsible adults.”
