A MAN charged with causing the death of a dad-of-two by dangerous driving has made a first court appearance.

Police patrols found a man lying in the road on Moss Bank Road, close to the Moss Bank Hotel, in the early hours of January 12, 2022.

Officers said it had been reported that a Mazda hatchback had been involved in a collision with a man.

Emergency services attended and the man, later identified as 21-year-old dad-of-two Adam Cunliffe, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police have confirmed that after a "comprehensive and complex investigation", a suspect has been charged in connection with Adam's death.

Paul Whitfield, of Hammond Street, Parr, has been charged with causing his death by dangerous driving.

Whitfield, 54, made his first appearance at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court before district judge Wendy Lloyd on Wednesday afternoon, June 26.

During the hearing, the case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where the defendant will next appear to issue his plea to the charge on Wednesday, July 24.

Whitfield was granted unconditional bail until then.
