POLICE have confirmed they were called out to a street in Prescot over reports of two dogs "distressing" a member of the public. 

Officers attended South Avenue this afternoon, Thursday, June 27, after a report was received, a spokesman said.

Police said they were called shortly before 2pm over the incident.

The spokesman added the animals have been "contained" and police are making inquiries to speak to the owner.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We were called to South Avenue at around 1.55pm to reports of two dogs in the street, reportedly distressing a member of the public.

"The dogs have been contained at a premises and inquiries are ongoing to speak to the owner."
