A LIST of roads across St Helens that will undergo repairs in the coming weeks has been revealed.

St Helens Council says that as part of its approved highway maintenance programme for 2024/25, works will be carried out at several locations.

It comes following a winter when many Star readers bemoaned the state of the borough's roads, many which have been hit by an epidemic of potholes.

In a statement, the local authority said works would be carried out at the following locations.

Wednesday, July 3:

Cranshaw Avenue/Abbots Hall Avenue/Finch Close

Bold and Lea Green Cranshaw Avenue/ Abbots Hall Avenue/ Finch Close

These will be closed to through traffic, as and when required, during the works which will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 5pm, with a likely duration of ten days, says the council.

Saturday, July 6:

Fleet Lane – Parr Fleet Lane will be closed to through traffic, as and when required, during the works which will be carried out between the hours of 8am-5pm, with an expected completion timescale of two days, adds the council.

Earlier this year, the council's highways department said it had been trialling low carbon methods to repair road defects such as potholes which form as a result of wear or sinking.

It added that using road repair materials made from recycled aggregates, bitumen and polymers was helping to repair potholes up to four times faster than it would take with asphalt.

The new process - which consumes 80 per cent less energy than traditional pothole repairs - has to date been used around the borough,

Meanwhile last year, the council invested in a new multi-purpose Multihog vehicle to reduce the long-term costs of road repairs around the borough.
