A POLICE dog helped officers to detain a suspect as two teenagers were arrested after a stolen motorbike was seen being ridden in St Helens in the early hours.
Officers were reported to two boys riding a vehicle at around 2.45am today, Wednesday, June 26.
Police attended and the suspects abandoned the motorbike and attempted to evade officers.
One suspect was found in an overgrown area, off the St Helens Linkway, recently renamed James Roby Way.
Meanwhile, another was also detained nearby and the motorbike was found abandoned in the car park of Tesco.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, fail to stop, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, going equipped for theft and carrying a passenger improperly on a motorbike.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, going equipped for theft and being carried in/on a motor vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report at 2.45am today (Wednesday) of two males riding a motorbike around St Helens town centre.
"Patrols attended and located a male in an overgrown area close to the St Helens Linkway. A second male was also located nearby.
"The motorbike was later found abandoned in the Tesco car park.
"A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, fail to stop, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, going equipped for theft and carrying a passenger improperly on a motorbike.
"A 13-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, going equipped for theft and being carried in/on a motor vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.
"Both are still in custody."
