POLICE discovered weapons and ammunition in a property after they had seized drugs during a stop check of a suspect.

A man was arrested on suspicion of drugs supply on Monday, June 17, after being spotted by officers in St Helens.

At around 10.30am, police searched a man and found cannabis, tablets and cash on Ravenhead Road.

A 32-year-old man, from Thatto Heath, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled Class A and B drugs.

A further search on an address was then carried out and suspected drugs, cash, drugs paraphernalia and several weapons and ammunition were found.

The man was further arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property, possession of an offensive weapon in a dwelling and possession of firearm and ammunition without certificate.

He has been released under investigation pending further inquiries, police said.

Neighbourhood Inspector  Josh Griffiths said: “Stop searches, warrants, land searches and arrests take place all year round, and in many instances it is thanks to the public who tell us where there are issues in the community.

“We urge people to come forward with information and intelligence by either contacting us or anonymously through Crimestoppers so we can act.

“If you have criminality in your area let us know and we will take action.”
