MERSEYSIDE Police has confirmed that a man died this morning close to the Tesco Express store at Windle Island in St Helens.
An eyewitness described seeing a number of police vehicles and officers near the store this morning.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services were at a premises on Rainford Road in St Helens this morning (Sunday, June 9) following the death of a man.
"The man was reportedly found outside the premises just after 6.50am when emergency services arrived. He is yet to be formally identified.
"His death is being treated as non-suspicious and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with his death. Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
"The premises on Rainford Road, Windle Island was temporarily closed and has now reopened."
