Prescott, the former Saints rugby league player, fought his own remarkable battle with illness after being diagnosed with terminal cancer and remains an inspiration to many, including the rugby league community.
In many ways, there were parallels between how Steve and Rob, both tenacious rugby league competitors on the pitch, squared up to the diseases they faced when the odds were stacked against them.
Linzi Prescott, representing the Steve Prescott Foundation, remarked: “Rob Burrow is a true icon of rugby league, and his bravery in the face of adversity has touched the hearts of many.
"By lighting the Steve Prescott Bridge in blue and amber, we pay homage to his legacy and stand in solidarity with all those affected by motor neurone disease.
"Stephen and Rob exemplify the spirit of rugby league both on and off the field.
"Their courage in facing terminal illnesses and their tireless efforts to support others through charity work and advocacy have left a lasting impact.
"While their challenges and contributions differ, their shared legacy of resilience and compassion continues to inspire the rugby league community and beyond.
"Rob’s message of ‘every single day is precious and don’t waste a moment’ resonates deeply.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Lindsey, Macy, Maya, Jackson, and the entire rugby league family who have lost a true hero and friend.”
