A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital after being involved in a collision with a car.

Emergency services attended Switch Island, near Aintree, earlier this evening, Saturday, June 1.

The cyclist had been involved in a collision with a black Audi on Dunningsbridge Road, near its junction with Broom’s Cross Road.

He was taken to hospital, police said.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene.

A road closure has been put in place at the busy junction which has caused significant traffic delays in the area.

A Merseyside Police statement said: "We can confirm that emergency services are currently at Switch Island following a serious road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a car earlier this evening, Saturday, June 1.

"At around 6.20pm, it was reported that a male cyclist had been involved in a collision with a black Audi on Dunningsbridge Road, near its junction with Broom’s Cross Road.

"Emergency services attended the scene and the male has been taken to hospital.

"The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene.

"A road closure is currently in place at the busy junction and this is causing significant traffic delays in the area.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident. Thank you for your patience.
