COUNTLESS challengers took on a man who set up a 'darts marathon' in honour of his late dad last weekend.

With Ian Fisher described as a "one in a million" dad who would do anything for his family, his son Ben has been fundraising for various cancer charities since his passing in 2021.

With Ian hanging on in his final days to see his son get married via Facetime, Ben has fought in a white collar boxing event, ran a month-long 56 mile challenge, and has now completed a 12 hour darts marathon in honour of his hero.

Taking place in a Lake District bar on Saturday, May 25 - where the family used to spend quality time together - various challengers accepted Ben's invitation on the darts board as the 37-year-old threw non-stop and live streamed for 12 hours.

Ben, from Newton-le-Willows, said: "The day went really well as I thought I might have been stood around, waiting for people to come and play.

"But with the FA Cup final and Cartmel races taking place on Saturday, I lost count of how many people came up onto the board.

"It was quite hard to be throwing for so long! But it was a really good atmosphere and everybody was really supportive of what I was doing it for."

With Ian a former darts player in local St Helens pub leagues, Ben chose the challenge as a personal touch and the money raised will go towards Macmillan Cancer Care, who were unparalleled in the care of his dad's final days.

As family, friends, and those in the community helping to raise just over £1,000 before the day of the fundraiser, the 12 hour event raised another thousand pounds to take Ben's tally to more than £2,000.

Ben added: "I said a couple of words after I had finished which was a bit emotional really, because it really meant a lot to me to see so much support.

"That's from all the people who came to see me on the day and all those who donated and shared the story in the weeks leading up to it too."
