AN impressive group of rugby players won their first-ever final at Saints' stadium earlier this month.

After reaching the final of the Saints Players Association Schools Cup Final, Cowley High's Year 7 and Year 8 girl's rugby league team won a huge victory for the school, beating Hope Academy 40 points to 4.

Following the semi-final heartbreak of last year, the school team displayed impressive resilience, teamwork, and drive to regroup and reach the final at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Wednesday, May 8.

With huge celebrations taking place after the final win, school leaders at Cowley said that the girls have made "memories for life" in getting to play and lifting the trophy at Saints' stadium.

Head of girls’ PE, Mrs Sheridan said: “Our Year 7 and 8 Girls rugby team have been outstanding all season.

"We have competed in every St Helens School's Festival with lots of success. Unfortunately, last year we lost in the semi-final meaning we narrowly missed out on playing at the Totally Wicked Stadium but in true Cowleian style, the girls said they would come back even stronger this year and that, they most certainly did!

"Miss Church and I are unbelievably proud of their conduct, commitment and exceptional effort throughout the year. A thoroughly deserved accolade to recognise their achievement!”.
