MOTORISTS are being advised that road safety improvement works are due to start on Monday, May 20 to install a signalised pedestrian crossing on Duke Street, St Helens.
The puffin crossing will act as a safe crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists on a busy town centre gateway road which often experiences a high volume of traffic, says the council.
Works are expected to last four to six weeks and will include carriageway resurfacing.
During construction, to ensure the safety of all those on site and the public, temporary 2-way traffic signals will be operation for most of the works.
Traffic flow will be managed by the site team daily to ensure delays to road users is kept to a minimum.
A council statement added: "Two separate road closures will be in operation to facilitate the road surfacing operations on the following dates: 1-2 June 8-9 June.
"Diversion routes will be in place for vehicles and pedestrians during any closures."
The works are part of the By Ours Cowley Hill Liveable Neighbourhood project to help "residents, businesses and schools reimagine our local streets"
